Common Mistakes Rookie Agents Make and how to Solve Them

6 MIN READ

Are you a new real estate agent? Do you find that your real estate career is either not going anywhere or you just simply don’t know where to start?

Just having received your license or being in the industry only a few months can be very overwhelming. Like any career, you are bound to make mistakes, but you also have the ability to learn from your mistakes and grow. This is why we found Zillow’s article, which focuses on mistakes new real estate agents make, without knowing they are making these mistakes. Below, we have listed a few of the most common mistakes new real estate agents make and solutions for each of these:

1. You don’t manage your leads well

One of the worst things you can do as a new real estate agent, or as any real estate agent, even have 20 years of experience under your belt, is not managing your leads well. What does that entail? Poor organization and time management and poor or no follow-up.

SOLUTION: We have written about these previously, but cannot stress enough the importance of organization and managing your leads and listings. Keeping a recording of each interaction with your leads, creating task and follow-up reminders, categorizing your leads, and sending them appropriate content based on their category are great ways to stay on track. However, this is where you would need to use a self-management system. A real estate CRM will come in handy. You will be able to do all of the mentioned and more, just by using this system to follow-up with your leads. This will save you lots of time, stress, and money, in the long-run!

2. Not Being Consistent with your Brand

You’ve set up your personal website, your social media, and even your monthly e-newsletter, but something is still missing. That is where your personal brand comes into play. Lack of proper branding and brand consistency is a big no-no. Just imagine what would happen if you didn’t see someone’s personal branding such as their logo, contact information, social media info, or even personal description. You would lose interest in this person almost immediately! Someone’s own personal branding helps them stand out from competition and adds a professional touch.

SOLUTION: You are now your own brand. As a new real estate agent, you need to understand that you are representing yourself, especially in a field dominated by competition. Stand out and show your true personality through every possible outlet. Add your own customized brand to everything that you put out there for your leads, past customers and current customers. Whether it’s adding a quirky touch to all of your messaging, customizing your e-newsletter with some cool articles, adding your headshot and contact info to your website, there are no limits!

3. Being Out of Touch

When you are out of touch, you can forget about business or referrals. Rookie agents or even season agents may make the mistake of not being available or accessible to their contacts in a timely manner or at all. Newcomers to the field may expect their customers to wait until they return their call whenever the agent pleases, but that is not always the case, especially in a competitive and booming field such as this one. The truth is, that the real estate market never quiets down, so it is your responsibility to maintain contact at all times.

SOLUTION: Go mobile, set reminders, and did we mention, go mobile? Having a real estate CRM mobile app is probably the single most important thing you can do for yourself. If you can take away anything from this blogpost, this would probably be it. A real estate CRM that has its own mobile app is your holy grail. You will be able to follow up, stay organized, set daily reminders, make notes of interactions with your contacts, and so much more.
